December 2015 marks the 2nd Annual Lumiere Festival in the West End. This year, the Lumiere Festival Society has teamed with the West End BIA, IESBC and Vancouver Pride Society. For two nights in the darkness of December, the West End will brighten up and offer local and international artist’s interpretation of light through interactive, colorful and magical installations on the streets and in parks.
In addition to the lighting installations, visitors can expect free hop-on, hop-off trolley tours, free horse-drawn carriage rides, and free entertainment on Davie, Denman, and Robson streets.
The Lumière Festival aims to brighten up the dark winter days of December. Our hope is to create an event that will delight people with its beauty and bring people of all ages into the West End for a special weekend of festivities. This annual event will encapsulate outdoor art and innovative illuminations in the most impressive and festive form. The Lumière Festival hopes to be a showcase of light installations and lighting extravagances by local and international light artists.
As human beings, we are drawn to light; we see joy and wonder in sparkle and twinkle and light makes a beautiful city even more awe-inspiring. Our vision is to grow this winter event into a long-standing annual tradition that will bring together communities and reinforce Vancouver’s reputation as a spectacular world-class city.
